“A Terrain That Doesn't Care (2013-2025)” is a retired biologist’s observations of the North American West of the 21st century. It is a photographic odyssey around the region, exploring our collective attitudes as settlers and inhabitants within the natural and built environments there. As I encounter the symbols of empire and myths of the American frontier, the work becomes a wider commentary on how one perceives the past while holding a place for nature, for oneself -- and for others -- in the present.
